In 1946, when Target was still known as The Dayton Company, we became one of the first companies in the United States to formalize a commitment to giving back — by donating 5% of profits* to the communities we serve. Now, 80 years later, that commitment to community lives on, not just through the dollars we donate, but through the partnerships, grants and volunteerism we activate with our communities all throughout the year. And we are proud to share that in 2025, Target contributed one million volunteer hours to our communities, marking the 10th time we’ve achieved this annual goal.
Our incredible team and the communities we’re part of, are what make Target so special. The spirit of generosity, the commitment to growth and opportunity for all we serve – it is in our DNA and is a legacy I am so excited to continue as we enter this next chapter.
Each volunteer hour, from the first to the millionth, meets a real need in a community or organization. From mentoring kids to cleaning up neighborhood parks and more, Team Target puts care into action. This impact is intentional, and it begins with listening to understand where we can show up and make the greatest difference.
Reaching one million volunteer hours reflects the heart of our 400,000-plus team members and Target’s long-standing belief in the impact we can make together. Supporting our communities is core to who Target has been since our founding. We’re proud of this achievement and excited to continue our ongoing commitment through volunteerism, grants and meaningful work in communities across the country.
Building a legacy
One of the ways our team members engage with their communities is through Bullseye Builds — a signature program that brings together Target’s community volunteerism and design expertise to meet a need in neighborhoods where it operates. Like our October build in Atlanta (pictured above) where more than 70 Target team members came together to renovate the learning center, build shelves in the food pantry then fill them and update the teen center with bright murals and new furniture. To build on that momentum in 2026, we’re bringing Bullseye Builds to another 13 communities across the country to restore, refresh, and reimagine community spaces. Target will invest $1 million in the program to help bring even more of Target’s style and design expertise to each project, creating spaces that are both visually inspiring and thoughtfully built to meet community needs.

Years our team members have volunteered over one million hours
Showing up nationwide
Team Target can be found volunteering in our communities all across the country every day of the year.
Just last month, our teams participated in volunteer events across the country on Martin Luther King, Jr., National Day of Service. In April, team members took part in more than 150 Earth Month events — from removing invasive plant species in Carlsbad, to partnering with ThinkWatts foundation in Los Angeles to transform an empty lot into a joyful community space.
Partnering for deeper impact
Target team members are passionate about serving the communities they call home. By listening to our teams and engaging closely with community partners, we stay connected to local needs and collaborate with organizations across the country to deliver support where it can make the greatest difference.
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: Target has partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 1996, beginning with the design and construction of Target House, which opened in 1999 and has supported nearly 5,000 families from 45 states and 47 countries. Each year, Target hosts multiple events with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, including Bullseye’s Magical Winter Wonderland in January 2026, a joy-filled experience for patients and their families.
- Second Harvest Heartland: Target’s ongoing hunger relief efforts combine access to food with strategic giving and partnerships to address food insecurity. For example, as part of our commitment to help Second Harvest Heartland’s goal of cutting hunger in Minnesota in half by 2030, earlier this year over 100 team member volunteers gathered to cut the ribbon on their newly named Target Volunteer Center and pack 17,688 meals for those in need.
The impact adds up
During the back to school and holiday seasons, Target team members can be found giving back to their communities. This fall, we reached 1,700 students with Target GiftCards to support their back-to-school-shopping. Our annual holiday Great Giftogether delivered nearly $1.5 million to more than 4,500 families in need, fulfilling their wish lists. In Chicago, our team worked with My Block My Hood My City, an organization that empowers and supports underserved communities and youth, helping make wish lists come true and create unforgettable holiday moments. And close to home, we hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves’ annual Holiday Shopping Event in partnership with A Mother’s Love Initiative, where local children had the chance to shop alongside the Timberwolves team. These holiday season programs are more examples of how we create impact on scale with our teams across the country.
Turning care into action
Together, these moments show that when our teams show up with purpose and listen to where they’re needed most, even a single hour can create a lasting impact. In 2026, we’ll continue showing up as trusted neighbors, working hand-in-hand with our partners to turn care into action across communities.
* Since 1946, we have given 5% of our profits to communities in products, cash and through the Target Foundation, which today equals millions of dollars a week.
