A role in Indirect Planning is an opportunity to positively impact Target’s ability to plan for the goods and services needed to support our stores and enterprise. Through data-driven forecasting, demand planning, supplier capacity management and cross-functional partnership, Indirect Planning helps translate future business needs into actionable demand signals while proactively identifying and mitigating supply risk.

As a Sr. Indirect Planner – Building Assets, you will own planning for non-retail goods and materials supporting Target’s New Stores, Remodels and Special Projects, including Properties maintenance, replacement and end-of-life initiatives. These critical building assets can require planning horizons of up to 60 weeks and cannot easily be expedited, making proactive forecasting, supplier capacity alignment and risk management essential to supporting construction and project milestones. You will lead planning activities prior to purchase order execution, from gathering and synthesizing demand inputs through forecasting, supplier capacity alignment and risk assessment. You’ll partner closely with Indirect Inventory, who owns purchase order creation, tracking and delivery, to support successful downstream execution.

About the Role:
As a Sr. Indirect Planner, you will translate complex and evolving Properties demand into forward-looking plans that enable suppliers and Procurement partners to make informed capacity and business decisions. You’ll use data, supplier insights and business context to identify capacity constraints, surface risks early and develop mitigation opportunities. You’ll directly lead supplier capacity and risk
conversations, using your planning expertise to influence decisions and help partners understand potential impacts to project timelines. You’ll build strong partnerships across Properties, including Construction, Store Design and Engineering, and within Procurement, including Sourcing and Indirect Inventory. Your forecasts, demand insights and supplier knowledge will also help inform sourcing strategies and events. You will embrace modernization tools, automation and emerging AI capabilities incorporating them into core planning processes to improve forecast accuracy, visibility, efficiency and decision-making.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own demand planning and forecasting for Power Systems, Fire Pumps and Exterior Sit
  • ​Finishes across New Stores, Remodels and Special Projects including Properties repair, replacement and end-of-life initiatives.
  • Gather, validate and synthesize demand inputs from Properties and Procurement partners to develop actionable, forward-looking forecasts.
  • ​Lead supplier capacity planning conversations, translating Target’s future demand into capacity requirements and securing alignment against long-range business needs.
  • ​Develop risk scenarios and recommendations that enable partners to make informed trade-offs when demand, timing or supplier capacity changes.
  • Partner closely with Indirect Inventory teams to create visibility to future demand, capacity commitments and identified risks that support successful downstream PO execution and on-time delivery.
  • Build strong partnerships across Construction, Store Design, Engineering, Sourcing,
  • Purchasing Operations, Program Management and Indirect Inventory to drive alignment and planning outcomes.
  • Support sourcing strategies and events by providing forecasts, demand insights, supplier capacity perspectives and planning expertise.
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships and leverage supplier insights to improve planning, capacity visibility and risk mitigation.
  • Analyze planning and supplier data to identify trends, gaps and opportunities to continuously improve forecast accuracy and planning effectiveness.
  • Adopt and embed modernization tools, automation and emerging AI capabilities t improve forecasting, demand planning, supplier capacity management and decision support.
  • Communicate risks, insights and recommendations through clear data-driven storytelling tailored to business, Procurement and supplier audiences.
  • Navigate changing business needs and competing priorities with speed, sound judgment and a focus on enterprise outcomes.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in demand planning, strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain strategy.
  • Proven leadership experience in leading large-scale planning, category management, or supplier strategy.
  • ​Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, optimize forecasting models, and drive data-informed decisions.
  • ​Experience implementing enterprise-wide technology solutions, including AI-powered demand planning platforms and procurement analytics.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with senior internal stakeholders and key suppliers.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence, mentor, and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% per year and maintain a flexible work schedule around key negotiations and planning cycles.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
