The pay range is $98,000.00 - $176,000.00

As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight in the application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You show expertise in applying the appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You have the skills to design and implement the architecture on your own, but choose to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs, providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences.

About this Team:

As a Senior Engineer on the Owned Brands Trend Brain Team, you will work with a cross-functional team of engineers and data scientists to accelerate and enrich the development of Target’s product lines. You will be part of a ground-breaking team here at Target leveraging GenAI to reduce toil from trend research, connect designers to research data and alert designers to relevant trend content on social media.

This is a backend role connecting LLM capabilities to multi-modal data curation, exploration and visualization tools, but we are open to candidates who are strong on backend systems and GenAI infrastructure but lack deep front-end experience. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a cross-functional capacity with data scientists.

About you:
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

• Ability to work in a highly collaborative Agile engineering environment is essential to success in this role.

• Fluency in Python and attendant ecosystem

• Experience with PostgreSQL, Open/Elasticsearch, Object Storage (S3/etc.) Especially knowledge/experience with vector databases

• Experience building systems and infrastructure to clean, tag, and index data for consumption by GenAI systems. Experience working with multi-agent systems a strong plus

• Experience building applications in a containerized environment

• Strong knowledge of emerging GenAI patterns, frameworks and use-cases

• LangGraph / LangChain / Google GenAI, etc.

• Context Engineering / RAG / Agentic AI

• Knowledge of existing commercial AI ecosystem (Gemini/ChatGPT/etc.)

• Experience building programmatic workflows targeting GenAI APIs or toolchains

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
