For more than 50 years, Target has been a staple of the downtown Minneapolis business community. Realizing the importance of a strong central business district, Target has grown into one of downtown’s largest employers and is a consistent supporter of its community. 

We work with our team and partners across sectors to engage in local conversations to gauge where we can drive and contribute to meaningful change.

Community giving has always been a cornerstone of our company. It's why, since 1946, Target has given 5% of our profits to the communities where our guests and team members live, learn, work and play. Today, this equates to millions of dollars a week in products, cash and through Target Foundation.1  

Through innovative programs, team member volunteerism, and strong partnerships, Target demonstrates a commitment to giving and philanthropy. In 2024 Target and Target Foundation gave over $32 million in product and cash  donations in the Twin Cities, and team members volunteered more than 74,000 hours in the community.

Supporting downtown Minneapolis

Target Field opening in 2010 helped increase development on the west side of downtown, and the current renovations to Target Center will add to the sports and entertainment scene in the Warehouse District. Target supported the establishment of the Minneapolis Central Library, building the new Vikings stadium, the revitalization of Nicollet Mall and many other projects that align with the mpls downtown council's "Intersections: The Downtown 2025 Plan" goals.
