ALL ABOUT GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Experts of operations, process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The job of General Merchandise and Food Sales teams is to lead inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team leads Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food safe experience. Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by owning pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

  • Guest service fundamentals and experience building and managing a guest first culture on your team
  • Retail business fundamentals including: department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
  • Setting and planning department(s) monthly/quarterly workload to support business priorities and managing a team to deliver on sales goals
  • Knowledge of the competition; leveraging insights to drive business objectives
  • Managing a team of team leaders; creating business specific strategies and goals
  • Recruiting, selecting and talent management of hourly team members and leaders

As General Merchandise Sales Executive Team Leader, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day most likely will include the following responsibilities:

  • Lead and create a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience, model, train, and coach Team Leaders on expectations to deliver the service standard and sales goals
  • Drive total store sales, demonstrate how you, your team and your departments contribute to and impact total store profitability
  • Build and manage a team that executes inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing and promotional signing processes for all GM areas of the store
  • Lead the understanding of how operational procedures, like planogram (POG) ties, product capacities and salesfloor quantities impact shortage, profitability, in store replenishment and inventory accuracy
  • Enable efficient delivery to our guests by leading pick, pack and ship fulfillment work (if applicable)
  • Develop a strategy and utilize your workload planning tools to complete all scheduled workload ensuring you are guest ready at all times
  • Create a scheduling plan with information provided by your Team Leaders based on monthly and weekly business workload and guest traffic
  • Lead prioritization and conduct regular check-ins with your team to guide appropriate completion of tasks and workload given resources and priorities
  • Oversee all GM backroom and sales floor areas, review all reporting to identify gaps and develop a plan to resolve including completion validation
  • Drive fulfillment sales by leading the Fulfillment team to fill each order accurately and efficiently and deliver on each guest promise time
  • Know and assess the competition; leverage guest insights and feedback to drive the business and be the destination of choice for our guests
  • Plan, manage, assess and validate on organizational and operational change
  • Develop and coach your Team Leaders to elevate the skills and expertise of the team
  • Establish and maintain a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management
  • Anticipate short-term and long-term staffing needs and manage talent planning and recruitment. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance; lead team to work in the same way and hold others accountable to this commitment
  • Create and lead a safety advocacy culture by understanding how safety impacts your role and that of your team, identifying and correcting hazards in partnership with appropriate business leaders, and holding team accountable to working in a safe manner to benefit themselves and others
  • Create and lead a culture of executing all best practices as outlined with team onboarding and learning; help close skill gaps through development, coaching and team interactions
  • As a key carrier, exercise good judgment and implement all safe and secure training and processes
  • Address store needs (emergency, regulatory visits, etc.)
  • All other duties based on business needs

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity
  • Manage conflict, lead and hold others accountable
  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis
  • Ability to:
    • Relate well with and interact with all levels of the organization
    • Learn and adapt to evolving technology needs
    • Independently manage workload and prioritize tasks
