The Supply Chain Operations team plays a critical role in enabling the end-to-end supply chain ecosystem. We are responsible for managing key business processes and supporting the development and execution of capabilities that enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness. Job Summary

As a Sr. Industrial Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing Target’s supply chain processes and facilities. You will combine process improvement expertise with automation and material flow design to deliver efficient, scalable, and safe supply chain solutions. This role requires strong problem-solving, analytical, and cross-functional collaboration skills to drive innovation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze operations processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and automation opportunities.

  • Create process maps, workflows, and facility layouts that optimize material flow and space utilization.

  • Define throughput, storage, and capacity requirements to meet business needs.

  • Model material and information flow to test cycle times and identify constraints.

  • Specify storage and handling solutions aligned with product velocity and service goals.

  • Identify and evaluate automation and robotics technologies; assess feasibility with vendors.

  • Develop cost models, including capital and operating expenses, for alternative design options.

  • Prepare and review technical RFPs; qualify proposals and recommend optimal solutions.

  • Ensure designs comply with all safety, regulatory, and operational standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, facilities, vendors) to deliver design solutions.

  • Support pilots and implementation of new processes and automation initiatives.

  • Provide dashboards, reporting, and documentation to monitor and sustain process performance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s in Industrial, Mechanical, Production, or Supply Chain Engineering. Master’s preferred.

  • 3+ years in process design, automation engineering, or supply chain facility design.

  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (AutoCAD, FlexSim, AnyLogic, or similar).

  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or Business Process Re-engineering frameworks.

  • Strong analytical skills; proficiency in Excel, SQL, or Python is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and vendor engagement skills.
