Sneak Peek: Target’s Plans to Reimagine Stores

What happens at Shoptalk… foretells the future of retail! The best and brightest minds in the business—from start-ups and tech companies to investors—are in Las Vegas now, “talking shop” at the second-annual conference. And Target CEO Brian Cornell just took the stage to share more on Target’s plans to reimagine our stores. A Bullseye View has a sneak peek!

It’s no secret that the retail landscape’s changing fast, but even as digital shopping skyrockets, our 1,800+ stores are—and will continue to be—critically important for Target. So important, that over the next three years we’ll spend billions of dollars reimagining and repositioning them.

“Our guests still love shopping in Target stores—we’re known for creating a sense of inspiration and discovery that can’t be replicated online in quite the same way,” says Brian. “So while we are investing heavily in digital, we’re also doubling down on our stores to offer guests an elevated experience, and at the same time ensuring fast, easy pick up for online orders—giving guests every reason to keep coming to Target.”

Reimagining our stores is no small feat. This year, we’ll completely remodel 110 stores, open 30 new small-format stores to expand our footprint into dense urban neighborhoods, like Manhattan’s Herald Square and on college campuses, like the University of Florida, Gainesville. And we’re just warming up—in 2018 and 2019, we’ll fully renovate 500 more stores.

So, how will these reimagined stores look and feel? You’ll get a first taste as we unveil our next generation of store design just outside of Houston in Richmond, Texas this October. This suburban store will be Target’s most ambitious store re-design to-date—it’s designed from the ground up to make Target an easy, more inspiring shopping destination. And we’ll use everything we learn to influence plans for our upcoming remodels. Can’t wait until October? Here’s your exclusive look Target’s new store experience…

From the moment guests arrive, they’ll have options for starting their shopping experience—literally. The store has two entrances—one that inspires with displays of our exclusive brands, seasonal moments and more. And the second’s all about ease, with quick Order Pickup, grab-and-go food and a wine and beer shop.

Ready for a peek inside? Let’s have some choose-your-own-adventure fun! First, decide which entrance suits your mood, then explore the store. (Hint: You never know what shopping mood’s going to strike, so you might want to browse both sides!)

There’s much more to come—stay tuned to A Bullseye View for the latest on our reimagined stores.
