Target® Corp. (NYSE: TGT) and six-time GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter Taylor Swift are teaming up once again to launch a deluxe edition of the superstar’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, “Red.” The deluxe edition of the album is available only at Target, and includes six bonus tracks (three new songs and three remixes). The exclusive edition of “Red” will be available for pre-order on Sept. 16, and at Target stores and on Target.com starting Oct. 22.
The deluxe edition of “Red” continues a longstanding relationship between Target and Swift that began with her 2008 “Fearless” release. Swift’s 2010 blockbuster album “Speak Now” sold more than 1 million copies in its first week of release.
Known for her relatable lyrics and honest storytelling, Swift describes “Red” as being written about “emotions spanning from intense love, intense frustration, intense jealousy, and confusion,” saying, “All of that in my mind, all those emotions are red. There's nothing in between, there's nothing beige about those feelings.” The album’s smash first single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” sold more than 623,000 song downloads in its first week, shattering the previously held singles sales record by a female artist and becoming the second-largest download ever, overall. The song has already spent two weeks in the #1 position atop Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 Songs chart as well as hitting #1 at iTunes in 32 countries.
“Target and Taylor’s past collaborations have been undeniably successful, and we are thrilled to begin another chapter in our partnership with the release of ‘Red’,” said John Butcher, vice president of entertainment, Target. “Taylor writes honest, emotional songs based on her personal experiences. Her music is original and inspirational, and our partnership will offer even more of Taylor’s popular music to her fans.”
“One of the toughest things about putting together an album is having to make the final song choices,” Taylor says. “I love that putting out a Deluxe Edition at Target lets me give the fans even more music.”
Swift has become a global superstar since the 2006 release of her self-titled debut album, breaking records on both the country and pop charts and winning countless awards. The six-time GRAMMY® Award winner is the youngest artist in history to take home the honor for Album of the Year, and she is the reigning Billboard Woman of the Year, the American Music Awards’ Artist of the Year as well as the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music’s current Entertainer of the Year. With only three studio albums under her belt, Swift has accumulated record sales in excess of 22 million albums and 50 million downloaded songs.
