Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT) successfully completed the Facebook voting portion of its Give With Target campaign after receiving more than three million votes in less than four weeks. The votes allowed Target to reach its goal of awarding $2.5 million in Target GiftCards to schools across the country two weeks earlier than planned.
“We are thrilled with the public’s response to Give With Target and the record level of engagement we saw through Facebook,” said Laysha Ward, president of community relations, Target. “Thanks to the millions of people who voted, Target will award thousands of schools with Target GiftCards to use for classroom resources just in time for the start of the school year.”
Give With Target resulted in the highest engagement of any social media campaign in Target’s history.
“Give With Target has connected guests with Target’s social mission of creating stronger communities,” said Fabio Freyre, director, Global Marketing Solutions at Facebook. “We’re making brands more personal on Facebook, and Target has done a wonderful job of using the relationships they’ve created to enrich the lives of thousands of students.”
From New York to California, more than 30,000 schools will receive Target GiftCards as a result of the Facebook component of Give With Target. For every 25 votes a school received, it earned a $25 GiftCard from Target. The five schools with the most votes are:
• St. Charles School, Staten Island, N.Y. – $4,375
• Andrew P. Hill High School, San Jose, Calif. – $3,475
• Northside Elementary School, Benson, Minn. – $2,750
• St. Hubert’s Catholic Girls H.S., Philadelphia, Pa. – $2,475
• Mooseheart School, Mooseheart, Ill. – $2,400

Give With Target launched on July 26 with two components. One component included awarding $25,000 grants to 100 in-need schools selected by Target. To date, half of the schools have been announced. The remaining 50 schools will be announced by the end of August with the help of Disney Channel actress and Hollywood Records recording artist Bridgit Mendler.
The other component of Give With Target included the Facebook voting campaign detailed above. Target invited people to visit its Facebook page and connect with its Give With Target app to vote for a school of their choice. For every 25 votes a school received, the company will donate a $25 Target GiftCard, with a maximum donation of $10,000 per school.
Guests can continue giving to the K-12 school of their choice by signing up for Take Charge of Education. As a result of programs like Give With Target and Take Charge of Education, Target is on track to give $1 billion for education by the end of 2015.
