About Us:

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. The Digital Strategy & Platform team creates seamless online shopping experiences across Target.com and the store network — enriching the digital journey through personalization, simplicity, and intuitiveness.

The Site Merchandising Category Refresh team owns Target's premier Category Site Merchandising product: the Category Refresh. The Refresh represents the deepest investment the digital organization makes in a given item type or category — spanning the full end-to-end guest journey, from marketing all the way through post-purchase experience.

As Category Site Merch Lead, Refresh, you are the dedicated owner of the Category Refresh product across your assigned business pyramids. You will execute high-impact, end-to-end refreshes built on a structured three-phase process:

  • Guest Persona & Behavior Definition — Define who is shopping a category or item type, how they engage across the digital funnel, and what success looks like from their perspective.
  • Experience Diagnostic — Evaluate Target's current digital experience against identified guest needs, assessing the full journey from marketing and discovery through purchase and post-purchase.
  • Cross-Funnel Strategy Development — Develop prioritized strategies that solve guest needs across the funnel and drive measurable business outcomes.

All three phases are synthesized into a detailed Fact Pack — the definitive artifact for each refresh, built for enterprise-wide use across Digital, Marketing, Merchandising, and beyond. In addition to executing refreshes, you will communicate results and insights broadly across the organization, and help mature the Refresh function into a scalable, guest-first, problem-solving capability for digital.

Refresh Execution & Fact Pack Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end execution of Category Refreshes — from persona definition and experience diagnostic through strategy development and Fact Pack delivery.
  • Ensure every refresh is executed with rigor, quality, and adherence to established methodology; manage timelines, milestones, and personal accountability for all deliverables.
  • Produce polished, enterprise-ready Fact Packs that are actively utilized across Digital, Marketing, Merchandising, and partner teams.

Know the Guest

  • Build detailed guest personas for each category
  • Conduct funnel analysis and customer journey mapping to identify where guest needs are met and where friction or unmet opportunity exists, from marketing through post-purchase.

Experience Diagnostics & Analytics

  • Build comprehensive diagnostics that assess how Target's current digital experience satisfies the needs of the identified guest, spanning all funnel stages and devices.
  • Identify friction, discoverability gaps, assortment presentation issues, and experience opportunities through quantitative analysis and competitive benchmarking.
  • Leverage Adobe Analytics, DOMO, SQL

Strategy, Communication & Influence

  • Translate diagnostic findings into prioritized, cross-funnel strategies with clear guest rationale and measurable expected outcomes.
  • Create executive-ready storytelling and presentations; communicate findings and refresh results broadly across the organization to drive action.
  • Influence prioritization and gain alignment across stakeholders — including Category Site Merchandising, Strategy & Planning, and Digital Roundtable partners — without direct authority.

Function Building & Measurement

  • Track and report refresh impact at the quarterly and annual level; define KPIs and close measurement gaps so refresh value is fully credited across the organization.
  • Continuously improve refresh methodology, Fact Pack quality, and process efficiency — contributing to playbooks, standards, and automation that make the Refresh function more scalable over time.
