Nature

We’re taking steps to responsibly manage our impact on the natural resources and ecosystems that support our business.

Nature underpins the availability of many of the raw materials, agricultural products and ecosystems that support our business.

Managing our impact on nature helps reduce waste, supports the responsible use of natural resources and contributes to the well-being of the communities where we operate, strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting long-term business continuity.

Our commodity-based commitments help integrate more sustainable practices into how we source materials and operate across our value chain.

Through collaboration with partners, we support nature-based solutions, aim to promote the preservation of land, freshwater and oceanic forms of biodiversity, and extend the lifespan of raw materials.

Water use and management

Water is essential to our business, from the agricultural products and raw materials used throughout our value chain to the communities where our team members, guests and business partners live and work.

In our direct operations, we are taking action to reduce water scarcity, improve water quality outcomes and manage stormwater flows.

Within our supply chain, which accounts for a large majority of Target’s overall water use, we are prioritizing projects that are both water intensive and water dependent at the raw material, factory and product levels within our food and beverage, essentials and beauty, home, and apparel and accessories categories.

We also work beyond our value chain to encourage progress through cross-sector partnerships, team member engagement, philanthropic investments and more.

Biodiversity

We continue to advance our understanding and management of nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities, in line with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations. Deeper assessments are shaping a more integrated approach that supports long-term value creation for our business, stakeholders and the natural systems we depend on.

We’ve made measurable progress on soil health, our most developed nature initiative, surpassing our aim to leverage soil health practices to improve at least 1 million acres of land. Working with our partners, we’re helping scale regenerative agriculture across the landscapes that produce many of the products our guests rely on every day.

We also work with industry organizations and other partners to strengthen our approach, accelerate innovation and advance shared solutions.
