As we deliver the style, design and value our guests expect, we’re expanding everyday access to more sustainable choices — making it easier for busy families to shop with confidence without trading what they want for what they can afford.

With our owned brands, we consider materials, construction and packaging to improve quality and performance and reduce environmental impact.

We also partner with established and emerging brands to expand our offerings of more sustainable choices that reflect the evolving needs and interests of our guests.

Our work in action

Helping guests shop with confidence

Our Target Clean program makes products with greater ingredient transparency more accessible for guests and team members. More than 4,700 Target Clean products meet Target Clean standards* — helping make informed choices simpler.

* A Target-created program denoting select owned and national brand products formulated or made without specific ingredients that meet Target Clean criteria and, where applicable, animal welfare requirements. Program criteria vary by product category. See the Target Clean program webpage for eligibility requirements.

Making sustainability easier for busy families

For more than 30 years, we've helped guests give products and materials a second life through in-store collection programs, from electronics and plastic film to our semiannual Car Seat Trade-in event. Through the program, guests have recycled more than 3.5 million car seats, and since 2022, nearly 1.53 million pounds of plastic collected have been diverted from landfills and incorporated into select Brightroom and Room Essentials products, all while helping families save on new car seats.

Embedding circular design into everyday products

Everspring and Universal Thread are Target’s first circular owned brands, helping us test and scale new approaches that reduce waste and use more sustainable raw materials. Building on our learnings, we introduced our Circular Design Framework in 2025 to help owned brand teams incorporate more durable, reusable and resource-efficient design practices across future products.

Guests can look for the Target Clean icon to identify thousands of products that are formulated without unwanted chemicals and that meet Target Clean standards for transparency.

2: Food and Beverage
Target’s own Good & Gather offers delicious, affordable food made without 100+ unwanted ingredients. Growing brands like ButcherBox, Maple Hill, Coconut Cult and Little Spoon bring guests the products they want — from 100% grass-fed meats and organic dairy to plant-based yogurt and Clean Label Project Certified snacks for kids.

3: Thoughtful Store Design
Energy-efficient features, a plastic bag opt-out program and first-of-its-kind accessible self-checkout help create stores that are better for guests and our operations.

4: Car Seat Trade-In
Twice yearly, guests can exchange old car seats regardless of where purchased for a discount and rewards; some recycled materials become new Target products.

5: Apparel and Accessories
Our Universal Thread brand includes denim made with 20% recycled cotton (by weight) and apparel with an easy scan and resale feature through EON Digital Product Passports.

6: Household Essentials and Beauty
Our Everspring brand includes plant-derived ingredients and reusable packaging options. Guests can find plastic-free products from emerging brand Blueland and products with refill-pouch options from established brands like La Roche Posay.
