Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

How does Target prepare for natural disasters before they happen?

A:

We help our teams, guests and communities proactively prepare for natural disasters through 24/7 monitoring, strong partnerships and a robust network of essential supplies.

  • 24/7 monitoring: Founded in 2006 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, our Corporate Command Center (C3) in our Minneapolis headquarters operates around the clock, monitoring severe weather and other events that could affect our guests, team or operations. C3 provides team members tips on how to keep themselves and their families safe, conducts preparedness drills throughout the year and provides hotlines to call in case of emergency. By keeping teams connected and informed, C3 helps us prepare for disruptions and respond quickly.
  • Strong partnerships: We proactively donate $2.5 million annually to support domestic and global relief organizations in addressing emergencies of all sizes year-round. This allows organizations such as the American Red Cross to provide immediate assistance when a disaster occurs.
  • A robust network of essential supplies: Leveraging our stores and supply chain network, we strategically pre-position critical supplies in and around regions likely to experience severe weather so we can provide relief to impacted communities faster.  Learn more about how our store in Mobile, Alabama, is helping to meet this need with hundreds of pallets of water, mobile charging stations, generators and care sites.
Q:

How does Target respond to disasters?

A:

We’re committed to strengthening and supporting our team and the communities where we live and work.

  • Supporting our team: When Target team members need support after a disaster, we’re able to activate care sites that provide items like food, water, baby wipes and surge protectors, plus resources including fuel, restrooms, shower and laundry facilities and even games for the kids. Team members can also apply for the Team Member Giving Fund (TMGF), which provides immediate financial assistance following a natural disaster or personal hardship so team members can take care of basic needs and get essentials.
  • Supporting communities: When disaster strikes, our team is ready to support our local communities by coordinating volunteerism efforts with local non-profits to assist with donations and cleanup. If community members need heat or power after hurricanes, we’re there, opening our store doors to those in need.

We listened to our store teams impacted by hurricanes and learned something powerful: During natural disasters, our stores are more than retail spaces — they're community hubs.
