Target and CVS Health announced today that CVS Health has completed the acquisition of Target’s pharmacy and clinic businesses. CVS Health will operate Target’s 1,672 pharmacies across 47 states through a store-within-a-store format, branded as CVS Pharmacy™, and Target’s 79 clinic locations will be rebranded as Minute Clinic™.

Next Steps
Over the next six to eight months, CVS Health will rebrand the pharmacies and clinics in Target stores with CVS Pharmacy and Minute Clinic signage, convert technologies and systems, train thousands of new CVS Health colleagues and implement operational practices to best serve the healthcare needs of our shared guests.

As each pharmacy and clinic is rebranded, Target guests will have access to CVS Health’s leading pharmacy care programs and retail medical clinic services. Further, CVS Health’s pharmacy programs, including Pharmacy Advisor, Specialty Connect and Maintenance Choice, will be available to help Target’s guests achieve better medication adherence through both improved convenience and enhanced pharmacy care counseling.

Target and CVS Health are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for our guests and team members. While most changes will take time to implement, a few will be in place right away. For example, as of December 16, 2015, Target Pharmacy guests have automatically moved to CVS Health’s network. Additionally, pharmacy and clinic staff are now employed by CVS Health and will no longer wear red and khaki. More answers to guests’ questions are included below.

FAQs

PHARMACY

How will the change from Target Pharmacy to CVS PharmacyTM affect me?

There will be very little impact to your experience until individual pharmacies and clinics are rebranded. At that time, guests will have access to CVS Health’s leading pharmacy care programs and retail medical clinic services. As of December 16, 2015, Target Pharmacy guests have automatically moved to CVS Health’s network. Guests are encouraged to call their health plan provider with any questions. For general pharmacy questions, you can contact your local pharmacy or CVS Customer Relations: 1-800-SHOP-CVS (1-800-746-7287).

Do I need to transfer my prescriptions from Target Pharmacy to CVS Pharmacy?

No action is needed. CVS Health colleagues now have access to your prescriptions and patient records. The process will comply with HIPAA regulations, protect your privacy and ensure you continue to receive service without interruption. Until your pharmacy is rebranded, you’ll continue to be able to access your records and refill your prescriptions at Target.com/pharmacy, on the Healthful™ app or by visiting your local pharmacy. Following the rebranding and systems conversion, you’ll be able to use CVS.com and the CVS Pharmacy mobile app for refills and all your prescription needs.

How will I manage my Target prescription refills?

In most cases, if you have enrolled your prescriptions in Target Pharmacy’s automated refill program, you’ll continue to receive your prescriptions as usual. There are some restrictions, so please ask your pharmacy for additional details.

To refill your prescriptions manually throughout the transition, you can use the Healthful mobile app, Target.com/pharmacy, or the Target Pharmacy mobile texting program. Once your pharmacy has been rebranded to CVS Pharmacy, you’ll be able to refill your prescriptions through CVS.com or the CVS Pharmacy mobile app.

What happens to my Target Specialty Pharmacy prescription?

Until your pharmacy is remodeled, nothing changes. Your specialty prescription will continue to be refilled as usual. You will soon receive more information from CVS Health about its CVS Specialty Connect program and its refill options.

How do I know if my insurance will be accepted at CVS Pharmacy?

For the majority of our guests, coverage will be uninterrupted. We recommend you contact your health plan provider directly to understand more about your pharmacy network, copays and other coverage options.

Will I still receive Target Pharmacy Rewards for my prescription purchases?

The Target Pharmacy Rewards program ended on December 1, 2015. Guests can no longer accrue points, though any Reward certificates can still be redeemed at Target stores. Following the transition period, CVS Health plans to offer its ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards® at its pharmacies in Target stores. To learn more and sign up, ask your pharmacist or go to https://www.cvs.com/extracare/landing.jsp.

When will my Target Pharmacy look different?

We are gradually rebranding and remodeling every Target Pharmacy to a CVS Pharmacy, a process that will take six to eight months to complete. Throughout this process, guests will continue to receive uninterrupted service.
