The holidays come but once a year and many children spend hours, days or even months creating their wish lists for Santa. But for some special boys and girls in need, their holiday wish list may not come true. The Shop With a Cop program helps build positive relationship by pairing officers with underprivileged elementary school students as they shop for holiday gifts for their families with gift cards donated by police and retailers.

Kids who have good relationships with local law enforcement officers are less likely to get into trouble with the law, and more likely to seek help from police when they need it.

Strong and safe communities are important to Target, which is why more than 100 Target stores across the county host these fun events during December. Last year, in a San Diego area that faces crime challenges, for instance, more than 325 kids joined officers for breakfast and a dolphin show at Sea World before heading to Target in a caravan of police cars complete with lights and sirens.

Shop with a Cop breaks down the barriers between the community and the police, helps thousands of families in need and builds just as many new friendships.
