Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) is pleased to announce today its plans to open what will be the company’s sixth CityTarget location in downtown Portland’s historic Galleria building. The multi-level store, set to open in 2013, will be located at Southwest Morrison St. and Southwest 10th Ave.

“The city of Portland and the Portland Development Commission are pleased to welcome Target to the Galleria,” said Portland Mayor Sam Adams. “We’ve wanted to bring Target to the area for quite some time and believe the new store will play a key role in our vibrant, signature retail district in Portland’s Central City.”

The Portland CityTarget will offer commuters, tourists and urban dwellers the convenience of one-stop shopping with urban living essentials, on-trend fashions and exclusive designer collections. The store will also include a Starbucks and a pharmacy to further enhance guests’ experience. The 89,000 square-foot store will be Target’s first store in downtown Portland and its 12th location in the Portland area. The Portland CityTarget will employ approximately 200 team members.

“Target looks forward to bringing the CityTarget shopping experience to our urban guests in Portland,” said Bill Frerichs, group director, Stores, Target. “We are committed to providing high-quality merchandise at a great value and continuing our reputation as a good neighbor in the local community.”

Target has been an active member of the Portland community since 2002. In 2011,  Target unveiled a School Library Makeover at Portland’s Bridger Elementary School and donated more than $20,000 in grants to Portland-area schools and organizations to support early childhood reading, school field trips and arts and culture. Additionally, more than 200 schools in Portland are part of our Take Charge of Education Program, enabling guests to donate up to 1 percent of their Target REDCard purchases to the K-12 school of their choice.

“The Bill Naito Company has enjoyed working with Target and the city of Portland on this exciting project,” said Anne Naito-Campbell, corporate secretary, Bill Naito Company. “We believe the new CityTarget will only add to the legacy of the Galleria building and enhance the downtown Portland community.”

Target will host job fairs approximately two months prior to the new store opening, where prospective candidates may apply and interview for open team member positions. Prospective candidates may also apply online at Target.com/careers or at in-store kiosks located at all Target stores approximately three months prior to the new store opening.
