Understanding Pricing at Target

  • Updated 12:00pm CT | Oct 15, 2026

Target does not use personal information to raise prices for guests based on who they are, where they live or when they shop. Everything we do starts with our guests. That means delivering value guests can count on and being transparent about the prices in our stores, on Target.com and in the Target app.

We use data thoughtfully to make shopping easier and more relevant — like helping Target Circle members discover deals they might care about or reminding them when it may be time to stock up on a favorite.

It’s all part of a simple goal: helping guests get great value and feel confident every time they shop Target. Below are answers to frequently asked questions:

Q:

Does Target use my personal information or shopping history to raise prices?

A:

No. Target does not use your personal information to raise an item’s price. And we don’t adjust prices based on the time of day you’re shopping or during times of high demand.

Q:

Why can prices sometimes vary?

A:

Target prices may vary based on factors like local costs, pricing regulations and competition. Some discounts may also be specific to a particular store or to digital shopping. When this occurs, the same price applies to all guests shopping in that location or platform.

Q:

What about the deals I see in Target Circle — are those specific to me?

A:

Target Circle, our free-to-join loyalty program, can use your shopping history to help surface deals and offers that are more relevant to you and that help you save — not to raise your price.

Buy pet supplies regularly? You might see an offer for pet food. Stock up on the same household essentials every few weeks? We may help remind you when it’s time for a refill or point you toward a promotion you might like. Sometimes the deal is simply about celebrating you — like the 5% birthday discount available to Target Circle members.
