Growing up happens fast. One day a little one is riding home from the hospital and before long, they’ve outgrown their infant car seat. That’s exactly why Target offers Car Seat Trade-In: to make it easy for families to recycle an old car seat while saving on what’s next.

Now in its 10th year, the event returns September 20 through October 3, 2026, guests can bring any old car seat to a participating Target store and receive a 20% Target Circle bonus to use on new baby gear.

“As little ones grow, families’ needs change quickly, and they want a place where they can find trusted products, great prices and everything they need in one trip,” said Amanda Nusz, senior vice president of merchandising, essentials and beauty, Target. “Our Car Seat Trade-In event brings together convenience, value and a thoughtfully curated assortment, making it easy for parents to recycle a car seat while saving on the products their family needs today and for the stages ahead.”

Giving materials a new purpose

Car Seat Trade-In is one way Target makes sustainable choices easier for busy families, helping guests give old car seats a new purpose and recovering materials that can be used again. To date, the program has helped keep more than 63.7 million pounds of materials out of landfills by recycling more than 3.8 million car seats. Those recycled materials have been transformed into more than 2 million Brightroom and Room Essentials owned brand products, giving them a second life in products families use every day.
