Digital SNAP Benefit Payment Capabilities Fact Sheet

  • Updated 3:35pm CT | Oct 12, 2022

Target guests can now pay for SNAP-eligible grocery items on Target.com, an enhancement to existing SNAP payment capabilities in-store. Mobile payment options for digital orders via the Target app are also coming soon.

History

Target has accepted SNAP payment in our stores for years, and guests can currently use SNAP benefits in all of our 1,900+ locations nationwide. Upon partnering with the USDA in the spring of 2021, Target began a test-and-learn approach to how we can make it easier to shop digitally using SNAP for our full range of products, including food. We piloted the option in Minnesota in summer of 2022 and began rolling it out more broadly to guests in eligible states in September 2022. As of October 2022, the digital SNAP payment option is available in all U.S. states except for Alaska; we’ll work closely with the USDA to pilot there when the state becomes eligible.

How to use

Guests will need to create or sign into their Target.com account on a web browser in order to place an online order. Then:

  1. Add an EBT account number as a new card under “Payments.”
  2. Build a cart and check out with SNAP-eligible items.
  3. Select EBT as the payment method and enter PIN number to confirm order.

Additional perks and savings

Through digital payment for groceries, guests are able to shop across Target’s broad food and beverage assortment via our fast and contactless same-day services Order Pickup, Drive Up and Same Day Delivery with Shipt — no minimum fee or subscription required — making it even easier and more convenient to shop with us. And regardless of how they choose to pay, all guests can get additional savings by signing up free for Target Circle and shopping deals via the Target Weekly Ad.
