The pay range is $128,000.00 - $231,000.00

As a Lead Engineer, you serve as a technical anchor for the engineering team that powers the product. You create, own, and are responsible for the application architecture and design to deliver robust and scalable software components. You constantly demonstrate the depth of your expertise by solving engineering problems. You are passionate about the quality of software and balance between speed of delivering new features and robustness of the software components you implement. You identify and drive architectural changes to accelerate feature development or improve the quality of service (or both). You have deep and broad engineering skills and are capable of standing up an architecture in its whole on your own, but you choose to influence a wider team by acting as a “force multiplier.”

The Inventory Valuation and Gross Margin team is responsible for implementing, scaling and maintaining applications that help Target’s Finance ecosystem maintain accurate financial results. As a part of this team you will be helping to design and develop critical applications that support realtime processing of financial data across Target.com, stores, supply chain and backend financial systems. We support hundreds of millions of transactions every day. You will have opportunity to work on challenging projects and build highly scalable web applications and services along with supporting current integrations to stabilize production environment in Finance’s technology landscape.

The team's current focus is to modernize aging technology applications while ensuring proper critical financial controls. There is a focus to partner with teams across the enterprise to maintain timely, complete, and accurate financial transactions.

Use your technology acumen to provide input to assist with evaluation of new technologies and contribute to the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services. Contribute to research and proof-of-concept initiatives for new technologies and assist with code review and design review, writes, organizes and maintains code based on designs. With guidance, delivers high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables. Participate in structured construction, automation, debugging, and implementation activities, ensuring architectural and operational requirements and best practices are met.

Engineers are responsible for:

Being an active participant in team ceremonies like daily stand-ups and bi-weekly sprint plannings

Engaging with products and partners to grow your domain knowledge

Understanding their capacity and owning feature development from test to prod

Designing and implementing testable and supportable features

Leaning and growing relevant engineering skills and sharing them with your peers

Relevant experience with the below technologies are recommended:

Storage and Caching: Postgres and Cassandra

Languages: Java, Kotlin and Groovy

Frameworks: Spring Boot and React

Data Movement: Kafka

About you:

• 4 year degree or equivalent experience

• 7+ years of software development experience

• Experience developing with Java, Spring Boot, and React

• Preferred experience with Kotlin and Groovy, but not required

• Demonstrates familiarity with current and emerging technologies in own scope of responsibility, and develops ability to apply these technologies

• Understands concepts of package solutions and package specific programming language with knowledge of development objects

• Demonstrates and continuously builds upon domain-specific knowledge

• Understands the concepts of distributed programming and applies it to their domain

• Knowledge of the different data structures in your chosen programming language and how to apply them.

• Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise. Experience in building highly scalable distributed systems

• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
