Seasonal Staffing: How Target’s Team Gears Up for the Holidays

  • Updated 11:20am CT | Sep 16, 2024

At Target, the holiday season is full of joy, and our 400,000-plus team members are essential in bringing that Target joy to life by delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Again this year, Target continues our investment in our team with market-leading pay and benefits and flexible scheduling options to meet their personal, financial and career goals. This starts with offering current team members opportunities to work extra hours throughout the holiday season and leveraging the On Demand team in our stores — a group of highly engaged team members who can pick up shifts as desired. To supplement our existing team during our busiest time of year, Target will also add approximately 100,000 seasonal team members across our stores and supply chain facilities.

We look forward to welcoming seasonal hires to Team Target, enabling us to continue building the best team in retail. Many seasonal team members — including more than half of last year’s — are offered an opportunity to stay with Target following the holiday season and continue spreading everyday joy to our guests year-round.

Looking for more about being a seasonal team member? Check out these frequently asked questions:

Q:

How does Target decide how many seasonal team members it plans to hire?

A:

We first offer our current team members opportunities to work additional hours, if desired. We also leverage the On Demand team in our stores — a flexible workforce that includes nearly 45,000 team members — who have the option to pick up shifts on an as-desired basis to fit their schedule. This strategy allows us to provide guests with an experienced, engaged and more stable workforce that is well equipped to deliver an exceptional guest experience throughout the holiday season. After prioritizing the needs of our existing team, then, leaders at Target’s nearly 2,000 stores and 50+ supply chain facilities hire additional team members to meet local demand, ensuring that we can deliver an exceptional guest experience throughout the holiday season.

Q:

What specific positions will you hire for? What are the roles and responsibilities for these seasonal positions?

A:

Seasonal team members fill a number of roles at Target, with the majority of seasonal roles in our stores. Specifically in our stores, we’re hiring for roles including guest advocate, front of store attendant, fulfillment expert, general merchandising expert, food and beverage expert and style consultants. These team members create a welcoming experience for guests and answer their questions, support guest services such as Order Pickup and Drive up, stock products and scan and bag items.

In our supply chain facilities, we are hiring for roles within warehouse operations. A role in supply chain means being on the frontlines of getting products to our guests and stores as quickly as possible, creating greater ease for guests and fellow team members.

Q:

What is the On Demand program? Are all team members, including seasonal workers, able to work On Demand?

A:

Target is committed to providing a variety of flexible scheduling options for our team. Over the past few years we have successfully established an On Demand team in our stores — a flexible workforce that includes nearly 45,000 store team members — who have the option to pick up shifts on an as-desired basis to fit their schedule. This subset of team members is picking up more shifts than ever before.

All current store team members have the option to talk to their leader about shifting to an On Demand role, and seasonal team members in our stores also have this option following the holiday season. We don’t currently offer On Demand positions in our supply chain facilities.

Q:

What wages and benefits are available to seasonal team members?

A:

Target has long invested in our team, and during the holidays we bring on additional hires to support our team and guests. Like our existing team, seasonal team members have access to a robust total rewards program, including a market-leading starting wage (starting wage range from $15-$24 per hour), health and well-being benefits, opportunities for growth and development, flexible schedules, discounts on merchandise and more — in addition to the chance to experience Target’s dynamic culture.

Some of our team’s most-loved benefits include free, 24/7 access to virtual healthcare through CirrusMD; the ability to get paid early with DailyPay; free, confidential counseling services; and a 10% discount on Target merchandise, with an additional 20% discount on wellness items at Target.

Q:

What does the application process look like?

A:

Interested candidates can visit TargetSeasonalJobs.com starting Sept. 25 to apply for stores roles. Target is already hiring for supply chain roles and candidates can apply through Target.com/careers.

For stores positions, pre-recorded video and online interviews will once again be used this year. For supply chain positions, candidates will submit applications and online assessments.

Target is committed to accommodating candidates who need assistance with the interview process. Candidates can contact Guest Services at 800-440-0680 or at the location where they are interviewing to ask about assistance with the interview process or for any other accommodation requests.
