The holiday season is well underway — lights are a-twinkling, bells are jingling, and excited faces are beaming. Shelves are stocked with merry-making goodies and all the essentials, and gifts arrive seamlessly as lists are checked off one by one. The secret behind all of that oh-so-festive fun? Our incredible team. Team Target makes all this possible, especially during our busiest moments. And as we create joy for guests, Target’s always striving to support our team, too. We offer a rewarding experience for our team members so they can meet your needs — and bring bigtime joy — every day.
For some examples of this in action, we asked stores and supply chain team members Abbey L. and Steve S. about how they’ve built meaningful careers at the Bullseye, and how creating connections and coming together as a team ultimately leads to an even better shopping experience for our guests.
Prioritizing care
For Abbey, feeling supported in every season of life has led to an almost 15-year career at Target and the opportunity to lead a store in her hometown.
“As I’ve grown and my priorities have changed, Target’s helped me go where I want to go,” says Abbey. “I started as an Executive Team Lead from a campus recruiting event and chose Target because of the many career opportunities that Target could offer. As a Store Director, the autonomy and trust I have from my leaders is great. I love that I've been able to help others reach their career goals, as so many leaders have helped me in my career at Target. And our culture of care and putting people first — that’s made it even better.”
And that same care shines through in how we show up for our guests and each other, whether it’s creating a positive and welcoming environment in our stores or making holiday memories as a team.
We always do a holiday meal for our team. Black Friday we cooked spiral hams in our roasters in the breakroom, ordered potatoes and gravy from the store deli and got a bunch of pies. We tried to make it special and make sure that our team can enjoy the season in these moments, too.
Moments that matter
When Steve accepted a seasonal warehouse role, he figured his time with Target would be temporary. Now, 16 years later, he’s built a career to be proud of.
“My team and my leadership are what have made me want to stay all these years,” says Steve. “I’ve seen the development opportunities increase. If you want to grow and have an interest, the leaders here will help you figure out the next step and show you the best path.”
Stories like Abbey’s and Steve’s show that our team powers the unique Target experience, especially in big moments. The partnership between our supply chain and store teams, for example, is key to supporting and delivering for our guests during the holidays. An estimated 150,000 trailers of product are slated to ship to stores this holiday season, and we’re continually looking at our supply chain operations to make things easier for our store teams so they can spend more time serving you, our guests.
“Our focus during the busier seasons is to be flexible, making sure we can support the stores and get our guests what they want when they want it,” says Steve. “If we’re making sure our stores are getting what they need in the way they need it, then that’s making things easier for our guests.”
And even as we make spirits bright for guests, our teams still take time to rally around our values and each other.
Every quarter our leadership team has a team-building event and for this last one we did a game show experience and a volunteer event. We make sure we have fun as a team but then also do something tied to our purpose, so we also went to our local soup kitchen and served meals.
Simply put, our team is the heart of our strategy and success, and the focus we put on caring for and investing in them will never waver. So thank you, Team Target, for stepping up to help our guests find joy in the holiday season and all year long.
