Want to make a product return even easier? You’ll soon be able to skip the line or mailbox and pull right in — to your nearest Target Drive Up spot.

Our Target Drive Up service has given guests the ability to pick up orders placed through their Target.com account without leaving their car. And now after a successful pilot test, we are rolling out the ability to make a product return through Drive Up to Target stores this spring — and expect to reach all of our nearly 2,000 locations by the end of the summer. It’s just one example of how we’re leading the way on ease and affordability to create a truly differentiated shopping experience.

The process is simple:

Drive Up Returns is the newest way Target is improving upon our convenient and painless return policy: Guests can return most new, unopened items within 90 days of purchase — and up to a year for Target-owned brands — for free.

“Our journey to expand our fulfillment options starts with making it easier for our guests to shop with us,” says Mark Schindele, Target’s executive vice president and chief stores officer. “That’s why we’re launching Drive Up Returns. Allowing our guests to process a return from the comfort of their car underscores our commitment to helping our guests shop — and return — however they choose.”

Drive Up Returns are the way to go

Why use Drive Up to make a return?

First, there's the convenience. Drive Up Returns are a no-stress option for guests with kids or pets in tow, those with disabilities — or anyone who wants or needs to stay in the comfort of their car and keep moving to their next destination. Then there’s the speed: Instead of dropping off a package at a mail carrier to be shipped and then processed, you can hand it over directly to a Target Drive Up team member and get your refund that much faster. And even better: There’s no charge to take advantage of our Drive Up Returns service.

The new offer shows how Target continues to innovate around our same-day services such as Drive Up, Order Pickup and Same-Day Delivery with Shipt. We’ve also introduced time-saving features like the Shopping Partner option in the Target app, which allows guests to send someone else to pick up their Drive Up or Order Pickup purchase, and the “Forgot Something?” button, which lets you order forgotten items after a Drive Up or Order Pickup order has been placed.

More recently, we’ve leveled up the Drive Up experience by giving guests at select stores the ability to add a Starbucks Café handcrafted beverage or food purchase and have it delivered to their car along with the rest of their Drive Up order.

And at the center of it all: our stores, which serve as the launchpad for in-person shopping, same-day fulfillment services and shipping orders as we continue to invest in our stores-as-hubs strategy. Whether online or in the store, making a purchase or completing a return, Target is redefining shopping — for all guests, every day.
