From closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day to stretching savings all season long, Target has been busy making sure holiday shopping is simple, safe and stress-free for our guests and team this year. And we’re doing the same for holiday staffing—with more team members focused on contactless services and safety measures, more opportunities for our current team and industry-leading pay and benefits for all.

Knowing that the holiday season will be unlike any other, we’re building in even more flexibility to make sure Target remains a safe and convenient place to work and shop, while investing in our team’s industry-leading pay and benefits.”
Here’s how we’re shifting our approach to holiday staffing and hiring to best support our team and guests this year:
We’re adding support where it’s needed most
Our guests are loving our digital options (proof: more than 10 million new guests shopped Target.com in the first half of 2020, and demand for same-day services like Drive Up and Order Pickup nearly quadrupled). So we’ll double the number of store team members focused on Drive Up and Order Pickup and train additional team members to help during our busiest times. With more than 90% of our digital orders fulfilled by our stores teams, packing and shipping online orders will also continue to be a big priority. And as our distribution centers prepare to send more inventory to stores than ever before, we’ll hire more distribution center team members across the country than last year.
Because safety is a priority for team members and guests, we’ll also add more dedicated front-of-store team members to disinfect carts, provide masks to guests who need them and help meter access so guests can maintain a safe distance during their holiday shopping trips. Target store and distribution team members have completed more than 400,000 hours of safety training this year, with hundreds of thousands of additional hours anticipated before the end of the year.
We’re bringing more opportunities to the team
Throughout the season, store leaders will regularly check in with their teams to understand schedule preferences and offer the chance for more hours and back-up training in additional areas of the store that are in higher demand, like Order Pickup and Drive Up. This means more flexibility for our team and more help where guests need it most.
And once we take into account our current team members’ preferences, leaders at Target’s nearly 1,900 stores and 43 distribution centers will hire extensively to fill a wide range of roles to meet local demands and serve guests. Overall, we anticipate seasonal hiring for the holidays to be on par with 2019.
We’re offering our industry-leading $15 starting wage, plus a host of benefits
Seasonal team members will receive a minimum starting wage of $15 and a range of health and wellness benefits to help navigate the coronavirus. Take a look at what’s in store:
- Free access to health care through virtual doctor visits through the end of the year
- Free backup care available to all U.S.-based team members through the end of the year, as well as access to discounts on tutoring and education resources and help with finding a nanny, childcare center or caregiver
- Mental health support and free counseling sessions through Target’s Team Member LifeResources, which is available 24/7 to all team members, dependents and any member of the household
- Personal protective equipment including face masks and gloves to wear at work, plus a home health checklist and a thermometer
- A waived absenteeism policy for coronavirus-related illness, including quarantine pay for 14 days and confirmed illness pay at 100% of pay for 14 days
