As nonprofit organizations continue their courageous service in communities around the world, Target is working closely with our partners to help provide what they need during this challenging time.
Target announced our $10 million relief effort back in March, as part of our $300 million commitment to our team that also included added wages, a new paid leave program and more. Since then, our teams have been working closely with organizations to align our support accordingly.
“Target and the Target Foundation have met this unprecedented crisis head-on with our largest-ever single relief donation,” says Amanda Nusz, vice president of corporate responsibility and president of Target Foundation. “Committing resources at this scale means that we’re able to reach communities around the world. We’re inspired by our own team, along with local, national and global organizations that are addressing the greatest needs in their areas and caring for the most vulnerable among us.”
Read on to meet many of the partners we’re supporting with our $10 million donation.
In our local communities
We’re dedicating $5 million to state and local community foundations that support nonprofits addressing the greatest needs in their area, including vulnerable populations such as underserved and under-resourced communities. The grants will go to partners coast to coast, including the Seattle Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund, which supports local orgs deploying emergency resources like financial support and childcare; the Greater New Orleans Foundation Disaster Response and Restoration Fund and its network of community organizations taking care of the elderly and the homeless, and many more.

National response efforts
We’re giving $3 million to support national nonprofits assisting with response and recovery for affected communities. Recipients include the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, which supports nonprofits working directly with the most vulnerable populations in order to help build response capabilities; and Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries.
Global response efforts
We’re committing $1 million to support organizations helping provide critical medical equipment and supplies to regions around the world. Recipients include Project ECHO, an organization bringing tele-medicine capabilities to remote locations and vulnerable populations in India and throughout the world; and UNICEF, which is delivering life-saving health supplies, building water and hygiene facilities, and keeping kids connected to education while working to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
In addition, Target is also proud to support the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund in support of the World Health Organization (WHO). We’re one of the participating partners of Global Citizen's One World: Together At Home, the global special event to support frontline healthcare workers and the WHO. Our grant will support ongoing work to track and understand the spread of the virus, provide care to patients and essential supplies to frontline workers, and accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests and treatments.
Support for the Target team
We rounded out the donation with $1 million for our Team Member Giving Fund, which assists team members and their families through unexpected financial hardships, including those most impacted by the coronavirus crisis. On top of that, Target is matching donations our team members contribute, up to an additional $1 million.
Our teams will continue to monitor the situation and, as always, work closely with partners to provide additional support as they need it. For the latest information about Target's response efforts, visit our coronavirus information hub.
