Target® Corp. has committed $250,000 in cash and product to assist with Hurricane Irene relief efforts. The donations will be distributed among relief agencies including The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.
In addition, Target is giving gift cards and 10,000 relief kits to other local, regional and national nonprofit organizations for essentials such as water and food. The kits are filled with a variety of travel-sized personal care items like soap, deodorant and toothpaste as well as non-perishable food items and bottled water.
“Target is proud to be a resource for our communities, and we’re committed to aiding those affected by Hurricane Irene in this time of need,” said Gregg Steinhafel, Chairman, President and CEO, Target. “Our team supports local recovery responses by volunteering and donating product and funds, in addition to making sure our stores closest to the disaster area are able to offer needed supplies.”
Target closed 117 stores ahead of the storm to keep guests and team members safe. Currently, all Target stores have reopened and most reopened within 24 hours to ensure those impacted had access to food and supplies.
Teams from across Target spend countless hours preparing for disasters of any magnitude and will continue to help communities across the country before, during and after a crisis.
This year, Target has given over $1 million in disaster relief aid domestically to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. The Red Cross and The Salvation Army will distribute funds to local chapters where support is most urgently needed.
