The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returned to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway over the weekend. The Target team started in the 14th position and was on their way to the front with less than 10 laps to go when trouble struck. Juan Pablo Montoya was collected up in an on-track incident with eight laps remaining and forced back to the garage early. The team would be credited with a 28th-place finish.

The ever so unpredictable superspeedway racing lived up to its reputation Saturday night under the lights. The 160-lap race started calmly as the first caution flag of the night wasn’t displayed until lap 82. Montoya and the Target team raced mid-pack and made a few handling adjustments throughout the evening in preparation for the battle at the end. The second half of the race consisted of six caution flags and unfortunately the No. 42 Chevrolet was involved in one of them with eight laps remaining. The No. 42 was making a charge to the front when an incident occurred in front of him and left him with nowhere to go. The damage was significant causing the team to end the evening early and settle for a 28th-place finish.

"Well that's not the way we had wanted our night to end,” Montoya remarked. “I hate it for our Target team. We just got caught up in someone else's mess with less than 10 laps to go. Daytona has not been good to us this year."

-    A late race accident took Montoya out of contention for the win last night
-    “Race Day with Juan” was announced over the weekend. For the fourth consecutive year, the Montoyas and Homestead-Miami Speedway will team up for a ticket package to benefit Formula Smiles
-    Montoya remains 21st in the point standings; 139 out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup

Teams will head north to New England next weekend for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The race will air on TNT and PRN radio on Sunday, July 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
