P31     Jamie McMurray, No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet (19)
P36     Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Target Chevrolet (39th due to an accident)
  • Tonight’s Daytona 500 marked the first time the “Great American race” has been postponed in 53 years and run under the lights.
  • Juan Pablo Montoya had a freak accident on lap160 and crashed into a jet dryer out on the race track. Both Montoya and the driver of the jet dryer were treated and release.
  • Montoya has 10 previous starts at Daytona International Speedway, this race marked his first DNF (did not finish) at the superspeedway.
  • Jamie McMurray was involved in an accident with 11 laps remaining.
  • McMurray looked to repeat his 2010 Daytona 500 win
Quote from Juan Pablo Montoya on the accident-
"I told the Target crew when I left the pits something wasn't right and I felt a weird vibration when we were with the pack. Every time I got on the gas, it vibrated. So, I came back in and they checked all the rear-end and everything looked ok. Every time I got on the gas I could feel the rear really squeezing. I got on the brakes to travel up and while I was telling the spotter to have a look on how the rear was moving, the car just turned right and I collided with the jet dryer."
Quote from Jamie McMurray-
“What a crazy couple of days this has been. Our Bass Pro Shops Chevy was good. We spent a lot of the race hanging in the back so we didn’t get caught up in anything and then made a charge to the front and wreck. The car wiggled, it felt similar to what happened with Juan’s car earlier on. Tough night for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Bass Pro Shops.”
Next up is the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. The race will air on FOX and radio stations affiliated with MRN on Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 pm ET.
