Strong Run for the Cottonelle Team Comes to an Abrupt End in Sonoma

MINNEAPOLIS - June 26, 2011
Results (with starting pos.) Infineon Raceway
1.             (11) Kurt Busch, No. 22 Dodge
15.          (2)  Jamie McMurray, No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet
22.          (17) Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Cottonelle Chevrolet

The Cottonelle team returned to the site of Juan Pablo Montoya’s very first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win over the weekend. The team worked on the set-up of the race car throughout the weekend and found the right balance come race time. Montoya was a top 10 contender throughout the race until an on-track altercation with seven laps remaining took him out of contention for a top spot.

The Cottonelle Chevrolet started the 110-lap race from the 17th position and it didn’t take long for Montoya to find his way into the top 10. The No. 42 team played on pit strategy and endured the on track beating and banging for 100 laps of the race. Crew chief Brian Pattie frequently radioed in that the No. 42 Cottonelle Chevrolet was the fastest car on the track. The team made their last pit stop of the day on lap 90 and made a final charge to the front. While battling for the fifth position, Montoya had an on-track incident with a fellow competitor causing the car to go off course. The No. 42 would eventually have to settle for a 22nd-place finish when the checkered flag fell.

“Really tough day,” Montoya remarked. “This isn’t how we had hoped things would turn out. The Cottonelle Chevrolet was amazing. It felt good to come in here with a strong run. We were making our way through the field and got taken out. It’s disappointing.”

NOTES
- Montoya has two poles, two top-five and five top-10 finishes out of 16 races this season
