Top-15 Finish for the Target Team at Charlotte Motor Speedway
The Target team enjoyed week two in their “backyard” of Charlotte Motor Speedway Sunday night. The Memorial Day weekend race brought about 400-laps of pit strategy, changing handling and track conditions and a green-white-checkered shootout to the finish. The No. 42 Target Chevrolet brought home a solid 12th –place finish when the race concluded.
NASCAR teams readied themselves for the longest race of the season where they started out under sunny skies and finished under the bright lights of the speedway. Montoya lined-up the No. 42 car in the 29th position and focused on maintaining track position throughout the marathon race. The Target Chevrolet pitted a total of 11 times for fuel and adjustments to help alleviate the changing track conditions. Montoya would be credited with leading a lap at the midway point of the race and find himself in the 12th position as the checkered flag waved.
“It wasn’t a top-10 like what we had hoped for but overall it was what we needed to do in order to get ourselves back up there in points,” Montoya remarked. “The Target Chevrolet got better as the race continued and Brian played around with pit strategy which put us in some good positions throughout the night. We learned a lot and we’re ready to move onto the next.”
Montoya maintained his 15th-place point’s position after the 12th race of the season. He sits 24 points out of 10th.
- Montoya has two poles, two top-five and four top-10 finishes out of 12 races this season
- Montoya currently sits 15th in the point standings; 24 points out of 10th
- Montoya has completed 4051 out of 4081 laps this season; 99.3%
