INDIANAPOLIS (March 31, 2011) –
Target Chip Ganassi Racing (TCGR) announced today that it has partnered with Kellogg Company – the world’s leading producer of cereal and a leading producer of convenience foods – to become a primary sponsor on the No. 10 Indy car driven by three-time and reigning IZOD IndyCar Series Champion and two-time and reigning Indianapolis 500 Winner Dario Franchitti in the IZOD IndyCar Series.
Franchitti will pilot the No. 10 Kellogg’s Honda Dallara for TCGR in Round 4 in Brazil for the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle (May 1 on VERSUS), and Round 14 on the Streets of Baltimore for the Baltimore Grand Prix (September 4 on VERSUS),
Notes of Interest:
Franchitti on Top of His Game: Since joining TCGR in 2009, Franchitti has delivered back-to-back IZOD IndyCar Series titles, including nine wins and the 2010 Indianapolis 500. Franchitti’s 2010 championship season marked his third consecutive championship in the series, as he spent the 2008 season in NASCAR. He is one of only five drivers to win the Indianapolis 500 and the series title in the same season more than once. He started out the 2011 season last weekend with a win at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, putting him in a tie for 10th all-time on the Indy car wins list with 27.
About Dario: The Scotland native has 216 starts under his belt between the CART and IZOD IndyCar Series resulting in 27 wins, 25 poles, 95 top-five and 135 top-10 finishes (1997-2010). He is the winningest driver in U.S. open-wheel history from Great Britain.
Team of the Year: RACER Magazine recently named Chip Ganassi Racing the 2010 ‘Team of the Year’ for their record-breaking season. Ganassi’s teams claimed 19 victories across all three major motorsports series which they complete.
Melissa Pawlowicz, Sr. Director, Consumer Promotions: “Kellogg Company has been involved with motorsports on a number of levels through the years, but this is our first foray into an IZOD IndyCar Series program. Dario is a tremendous talent and we look forward to him and the team representing us on and off the track in 2011. We’re excited about what the Ganassi organization offers and look forward to continuing the momentum we’ve seen with INDYCAR recently.”
Steve Lauletta, President, Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, Inc.: “We are very happy to begin this new relationship with the Kellogg Company on our IndyCar program. I think it says a lot about our team when companies like Kellogg’s are interested in leveraging a sponsorship to help grow their business. We collectively feel the partnership will help them drive awareness of their brand with the huge number of race fans who are watching our cars each week.”
