The Target team started out the weekend strong with their 11th consecutive top-10 qualifying position at Kansas Speedway.  The No. 42 Target Chevrolet lined-up seventh and handling concerns quickly became an issue.  Montoya brushed the wall on lap 42 due to a loose handling race car and the team worked throughout the day to get a strong finish out of the race.  In the end, Montoya would settle for a 29th-place finishing position.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series headed out to the mid-west for their only race at Kansas Speedway this season. Montoya and the Target team unloaded Friday morning and was quick right off the truck posting the fastest time in the first practice session. Come race time the No. 42 Target Chevrolet ran in the top-10 for the first 30 laps until handling began to affect the car. The first caution flag flew on lap 42 due to the Montoya brushing the wall in turn 3. The Target crew repaired the fender damage and Montoya returned to the track in the 23rd position. The remaining laps of the 400-mile event the team worked to get the handling back under control. A total of eight pit stops were made throughout the day for tires, fuel and adjustments. When the checkered flag waved on lap 267 Montoya was credited with the 29th position.
“We just missed the set-up out there,” Montoya remarked. “No matter what changes were made, the car just wasn’t responding the way we had hoped it would. Hate that we had a bad day but fortunately this isn’t something we contend with every weekend.”
Seven races remain in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.  The Pepsi Max 400 at California Speedway is up next on the schedule. The race will air live on ESPN and radio stations affiliated with MRN this Sunday, Oct 10 at 3 pm (ET).
