Franchitti Claims Victory at Mid-Ohio, Dixon Fifth
LEXINGTON, Ohio (August 8, 2010) - Team Target had another strong finish at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with Dario Franchitti scoring his second win of the season, and Scott Dixon driving the No. 9 Target Honda Dallara across the finish line in fifth position.
The win was Chip Ganassi Race Teams, Inc. third win of the weekend. Ganassi teams also won the Rolex GRAND-AM Series Race at Watkins Glen Saturday with Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen with Juan Pablo Montoya on Sunday.
Franchitti lined-up second on the grid and ran in the top-three throughout the race, leading a total of 29 laps. The key to the 85-lap race was when the No.10 Target team got him out off pit lane ahead of leader Will Power on Lap 25. Franchitti took it from there, maintaining the point over Power to score his second win of the season (Indianapolis).
Dixon started from the fifth position and passed up to fourth in the opening laps. The team’s first stop on Lap 25 dropped the No. 9 car from fourth to ninth. Dixon would eventually drive back into the top five and finish fifth.

With the finishes, Franchitti remains second in the championship with 420 points - just 41 points behind leader Will Power. Dixon remains third in the championship with 379 points – 82 points out of the top spot.
Up next for Team Target is Round 13 of the IZOD IndyCar Series at Infineon Raceway for the Indy Grand Prix, August 22 (5:00 p.m. VERSUS).
Dario Franchitti: “I think the key to the race, obviously, was the Target car was very fast. I drove every lap like it was a qualifying lap today, whether I was behind Will or ahead of Will. But the key was that first pit stop by the Target boys to get me out ahead, especially a 35-foot pit box. It's the tightest we run. In practice, we couldn't get the thing out of the box with Will parked in his or get it in properly. But when the race win was on the line, it didn't seem quite as difficult and managed to pass him. I think that was the key today, because we were incredibly evenly matched on the track.”
Scott Dixon: “It was a tough day for the #9 Target car. We were running fairly well and I think we definitely had the speed to be in the top 3, or even a chance to win if we would have used the right strategy. It was tough to pass because the competition was so thick, but when you have a bad pit stop and drop back to twelfth, it’s pretty hard to pick it back up. I am pleased with a fifth-place finish after my pit stop incident.”
