Role overview:

The Principal Product Manager – Inventory Purchasing and Positioning (IPP) is responsible for developing and executing the strategy to optimize inventory flow across Target’s fulfillment and replenishment network. This role will work closely with three product directors in the IPP portfolio supporting both Purchasing and replenishment. This role will also act as the subject matter expert (SME) for the engineering teams and lead the development of the prioritized features along with the systematic scale and performance improvements required to support business growth. The overarching goal is to manage optimized purchasing and flow it with precision across the network add trade off logic to make best use of inventory, improve guest experience due to out of stocks, and provide feedback to replenishment systems for better in stocks.

Key functional areas of responsibility include:

  • Inventory Allocation: product capability will be responsible for the overall inventory availability calculation with ability to read replenishment inventory, inventory flow and timelines for inventory units to be ready at fulfillment locations. Logic will have intelligence to leverage replenishment inputs and existing availability incoming inventory (Purchase orders).
  • Cross mile simulation: Product Capability focused on leveraging replenishment signals, Inbound inventory and futuristic forecast and provide a holistic view of the behavior of the entire replenishment supply chain which would facilitate the business users to make more informed decisions and provide visibility into the downstream and upstream effects of its decisions
  • Data Automation, Audit and Analytics: The individual will use analytical tools to accurately audit data to identify operational defects negatively, opportunities to improve inventory accuracy and availability metrics, and support downstream reporting

The Principal Product Manager role will cut across multiple product teams to system capabilities to develop new future & multi echelon inventory system and enhance inventory availability for Target guests. This role will develop strategy of the required system capabilities, tactical plans and lead other product owners to execute strategy. This individual will need to collaborate with other Principals, Directors and Senior Directors across Target Technology Services, Digital, Global Supply Chain & Logistics, Store Operations, Target Finance and other key enterprise partners to gain alignment and make progress.

Reporting/Working Relationships

  • Reports to Director Product Management
  • Located at Target India.
  • No direct reports, but will support strategy and delivery of the capabilities above across IPP product directors
  • Working Relationships: Works closely with Target Tech engineering teams and business product teams in India and United States, Global Supply Chain & Logistics, Digital, Stores, Target Finance and Accounting, Enterprise capacity planning and Data Science

About you:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on Product Management experience or Supply chain experience with at least 5 years in leadership role.
  • 5+ years’ experience with Purchasing and Positioning
  • 5+ years’ experience working in product and agile model
  • Thought leader in the Supply chain, Inventory flow and optimization
  • Knowledge of fulfillment functions and platforms (Procurement, Replenishment, Order Management, Optimization/Sub optimization, TMS, WMS, Carrier Labeling and interactions)
  • Knowledge of B2B interactions (EDI, XML, APIs)
  • Proven ability to collaborate and cultivate lasting relationships across technology, business and cross-pyramid teams
  • Strategic mindset and bias for action
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong business, technology and data acumen with interest towards AI/ML solutions.
  • Strong communication skills w/ proven ability to communicate across business and technology teams as well as different levels of leadership.
