The Item Center of Excellence has elevated the importance of Item Excellence as it has direct impact on Target’s digital guest experience, operating expenses, and gross margin.

As an Item Data Steward, you will be responsible for working across the enterprise to establish partnerships, best practices, and processes focused on driving digital growth and a strong guest experience. This will include, but not be limited to, stewarding overall item quality, managing data sources, resolving item issues, and documenting best practices and definitions for overall item excellence. As a Sr. Item Data Steward, you will take the lead as you:

  • Manage cross-functional efforts focused on driving item data consistency, accessibility, reliability and discoverability.
  • Develop processes to evaluate and govern overall item data quality to meet business needs across the Enterprise.
  • Develop project plans for driving key objectives and priorities in support of the Item Center of Excellence strategy.
  • Analyze item attribute usage by category and guest significance to understand the impact and importance of each item attribute within the business.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to drive continuous improvement to operational and item excellence routines.
  • Identify and lead key item accuracy, completeness, consistency, and uniqueness strategies (IQI) within the Item COE and across the enterprise.
  • Work closely with the item certification team to implement processes to identify item discrepancies causing significant guest, compliance, or operational issues.
  • Collaborate with product teams to inform and share item excellence data and best practices in support of key initiatives.
  • Consult with taxonomy team to provide clarity on item structure with identified issues.
  • Champion the development and implementation of product data and hierarchy standards within and across categories.
  • Influence the coverage and breadth of item quality business processes in partnership with data quality analysts.
  • Display strong cross-functional leadership as you build strong working relationships with Item Process, Item Taxonomy, Item Content, and Item Data Quality across all levels including leadership.
  • Provide timely communication of item excellence performance to all levels of leadership within Item COE.

Team and Partner Management:

  • Reports to Director, Enterprise Item.
  • No direct team member reports.
  • Partners with multiple Item COE teams including Item Setup, Item Process, Data Quality, Taxonomy, Item Product, Item Data Acquisition, and Item Certification as required.
  • Will be responsible for building and maintaining strong external partnerships (where applicable): product, Target+, AP, Legal and Compliance, site merchandising, merchandising

About you:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in project management, partnership management, program management, and/or data stewardship
  • High level of analytical aptitude with experience measuring and tracking key metrics for continual improvement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to train new concepts, processes, requirements, and expectations
  • A partner-centric mindset; motivated by collaboration and cross-functional work
  • PC experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
