Military & Veteran Team Members and Guests

Target has a long-standing history of demonstrating our gratitude to members of the military, veterans and their families through our popular military discount, year-round support of our team and deep-rooted community partnerships.

Honoring military service

Every November, Americans commemorate Veterans Day as a way to say thanks to those who have served — or continue to serve — our country. For the past seven years, we’ve proudly extended a 10% military appreciation discount to all U.S. active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families to use in stores or online in early November. And to celebrate Independence Day, Target is now making the discount available outside of Veterans Day. We continue the celebration year-round by sharing team member stories of veterans and service members who bring their unique talents to Target every day.

Military Business Council

The Military Business Council (MBC) is one of seven Diversity and Inclusion Business Councils at Target. MBC supports our inclusive culture by providing resources and support to team members with a connection to our nation’s military, and helps us identify opportunities to better serve job candidates, team members and guests with military connections. The MBC’s mission is to create a compelling and engaging community for team members to come together and support those who have served or are serving, including family, friends and allies.

One of my favorite projects was helping Target become one of the first Beyond Yellow Ribbon companies, which helps connect returning service members and their families with community support, training, services and resources.

Meet a few of our partners

Target’s support of active-duty military, veterans and their families extends beyond Independence and Veterans Day. We have created opportunities for our guests to support military- and veteran-focused organizations by voting to direct community giving funds to nonprofits in our top military markets.

But we also support this community all year through community service, grants and career opportunities for veterans. Year-round, we partner with the USO, Operation Gratitude and The Mission Continues for volunteer events across the country. And as a member of Veteran Jobs Mission, we have joined with other top companies in a pledge to hire more U.S. military veterans.

We work with partners like Hiring America and Clear Channel to support military veterans as they transition into the workforce. Our team member veterans shared their success stories for iHeartRadio’s Show Your Stripes initiative, and Target was among the first companies featured in the Hiring America TV series dedicated to helping veterans find jobs.

Additionally, we are a founding donor of the National Medal of Honor Museum’s capital campaign. Funding from Target will support museum construction, institution educational advancement, operational expenses and authorization of a new monument to honor Medal of Honor recipients.

Supplier diversity

Target’s proud to work with an ever-growing roster of diverse suppliers and each partner, in their own way, helps us champion inclusion within our assortment and far beyond. Target partners with organizations like the National Veteran Business Development Council and other organizations supporting veteran-owned businesses to further our initiatives and help us develop relationships with veteran-owned suppliers.

In 2012, Target became one of the first Yellow Ribbon companies as part of the Minnesota National Guard’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program.
