If you happened to walk past Pier 17 at New York City’s South Street Seaport last week, you might have noticed a giant red boom box sitting at the end of the pier. And if you got closer, you would have seen a larger-than-life outlet and plug, waiting to bring the boom box to life. Passersby soon realized they needed to work together to connect the circuit—and to their surprise, when they plugged in the cord the square lit up, flooded with dozens of dancers, snow and twinkling lights, all to the sound of Target’s song of the season, “Gather Round!”
Target’s known for its memory-making holiday moments. From our Wonderland pop-up to our Toycracker holiday campaign, we’re always on the lookout for ways to surprise and delight guests in and out of stores. For this holiday event, we worked with New York-based Improv Everywhere, a comedy performance-art group, to make the “Gather Round” flash-mob a reality. Want to see how it all went down?
