Teams across Target are working quickly to support our team members and guests impacted by Hurricane Michael. On October 12, we donated $1 million to help with recovery efforts.
In preparation for the storm, Target’s Green Team—a cross-functional team led by the Global Crisis Management team in our Corporate Command Center (C3), which includes human resources, corporate responsibility, properties, distribution, security and many more teams—activated as part of our established crisis response program. The group supports our stores and distribution centers by monitoring weather conditions, coordinating efforts to take care of our team, shipping much-needed products to the area and putting plans in place to maintain and protect our team, facilities and operations.
Local teams worked to secure nearly 330 Target properties in the path of the storm. Some of our stores close to the coast are built with hurricane glass, and on others, we shuttered windows and entrances earlier this week to protect them from the elements. We also sent generators to many of our facilities to help prepare in case they lost power.
Distribution teams shipped as many extra trailers of essential products as possible to the stores—including the 1,500 items we know our guests need most during a hurricane—to continue restocking for our guests. We shipped thousands of bottles of water to impacted stores, along with food, flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, cleaning supplies and more. Additionally, stocked trucks are waiting at our distribution centers to send to stores as quickly as we safely can.
We’re also committed to supporting our local community partners. We provided an initial $5,000 in Target GiftCards for our local store teams to give to the community based on immediate needs, and donated $1 million to support our team members and communities after the storm hit. We continue to work closely with first responders and other partners to learn what additional products or financial support is needed.
Whenever a disaster hits, we balance our need to keep stores open for the community while making sure our team members can take care of themselves and their families.
The following store remains closed for the safety of our teams and guests.
