It’s been one year since we launched Kristin Ess Hair—a Target exclusive brand from none other than celebrity hairstylist and The Beauty Department co-founder Kristin Ess. Since then, she’s showed us how to create the latest hair trends, from beachy waves to holiday glam, and has continued to show off her hair prowess on the red carpet with VIP clients like Lauren Conrad, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Lucy Hale. With more than 20 years of experience in the beauty industry, she knows a thing or two about what makes a haircare product great—which is why we’re introducing 11 new Kristin Ess Hair products coming to Target stores and Target.com!

“Since Target first introduced Kristin Ess Haircare one year ago, our guests have fallen in love with the collection. That’s why we were so excited to once again partner with Kristin to develop 11 new products that are high-quality, affordable and fun!” said Christina Hennington, senior vice president of Beauty and Essentials at Target. “This new collection is all about providing a solution for every haircare need, and it reinforces that Target is where you can discover incredible beauty products at an equally incredible value.”
The new line includes her first ever hair tint—an in-shower watercolor that creates a temporary rose gold tint when sprayed onto damp or wet hair. While the products may be new, every item will still feature the brand’s signature Zip-Up™ complex, made with Kerabead microcapsules and conditioning ingredients like chia seeds, pea protein and marine algae, which helps to strengthen hair and protect against damage.
We sat down with Kristin to learn more about the new line. Read on!
What inspired you to bring hair tint into your line?
I’m a colorist so hair color has always been high on my list! I wanted to start out with something very noncommittal, that was easy to apply, and that felt good in the hair… plus my love for pink hair isn’t going away anytime soon.
What hair trend do you think is going to be popular this year?
Air drying! People are embracing their natural texture more than ever before. I pretty much based this entire collection on doing less and minimizing the time you spend styling your hair without minimizing style.
How can these products be incorporated into an existing haircare routine?
All of the products in the line are layerable. So as long as you know which ones are for in-shower, which ones are for wet styling and which ones are for dry styling you’ll have no problem incorporating them into your routine.
