Kate Arends, the blogger, tastemaker and designer extraordinaire behind Wit & Delight, has created everything from barware to entertaining fare for Target. But for her first foray into pet design, she went all out. And we think you’ll agree—this stuff is paws-itively adorable. It’s one more way we’re upping our pet game at Target with new and exclusive products at a great value for guests’ favorite four-legged friends.

This stuff is seriously fun. What was your inspiration?
I’m nuts about my dog, Winnie. She is my constant companion and can quite often be found on a coffee run or at the studio space with me. Last year was our little family’s first Christmas together and with a new baby in the house, poor Winnie didn’t get the attention she was used to. I wanted to make sure she felt included in the festivities this year, which led me to think about what I would want to purchase for her: reindeer antlers, sweaters and a festive, cozy bed. We all design in some way for the Holidays, whether it be our homes, our offices or ourselves, and it was a blast to think about how to incorporate furry family members into family holiday rituals.
What makes the line unique?
We wanted the line to be premium and considered, and not feel kitschy or like a costume. While witty, it still feels refined and timeless. Traditional Buffalo Plaid and knitted Fair Isle created festive and classic products that are durable and will last long after the holidays have passed. You’ll be buying yourself a new tie or sweater for the Holidays, why not buy your pet something too?
Tell us about the design process…
It was just plain fun. While making sure the quality and durability was forefront, I allowed myself to be a bit more playful with my design choices. And of course, I got to work with some of my favorite clients: dogs. The Target team is wonderful to work with, too, providing direction for the type of product Target guests are looking for, but giving me creative license to really design product that I’m proud to put my brand on.
What are some of your faves? And Winnie’s?
The outfits are really the show-stopper. From the knitted sweaters to the plaid and chambray jacket and the buffalo plaid jammies, these pieces of pet clothing are functional and festive. I also love the pet beds and dog bowls. We decorate our homes for the Holidays, so we might as well spruce up the areas where our pets live as well.
Winnie loves the pet beds lying around the studio. During the day, we find her following the sun and roaming from bed to bed for afternoon naps. The scarves and sweaters have kept her warm on chilly days this fall—she has an extra little spring in her step when she’s wearing Wit & Delight.
Any holiday gift-giving tips?
All of these items have a little personality to them, so be sure to think of the personality of the pet (and the human!) when you are deciding what to gift. The chambray antlers are perfect for the pooch that doesn’t take life to seriously, while the knitted bow tie is great for that dog that carries an air of sophistication.
