Since we started announcing Target’s small-format stores coming to the Big Apple, New Yorkers have been eagerly awaiting the opening of our newest location in Midtown Manhattan. This Friday, we’ll bring the best of Target to the heart of Herald Square, the epicenter of Manhattan retail.
With its central location and entrances on busy 33rd and 34th Streets, more than 42,000 locals and tourists will walk past this store each day. So we customized it inside and out with the products and services they need, and also to serve as a handy pick-up point for online orders.
You may have heard about our plans to move into more new neighborhoods with our small-formats, making shopping extra easy (and fun!) for guests in urban and suburban areas and near college campuses. We’re on track to open 28 small-format stores this year—including 11 small-formats celebrating their grand openings this week across the nation. By the end of 2019, we’ll be operating more than 130, including our first Vermont location in South Burlington opening at University Mall in fall 2018.
One exciting feature our new Herald Square store will have? Our same-day delivery service currently testing in Tribeca—we’re expanding it to Herald Square along with our newly opened Brooklyn Bensonhurst and Brooklyn Fulton Street locations this month. The service lets guests have their store purchases delivered later that day to anywhere in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn and Queens in a two-hour timeframe, for a small fee. So far, Tribeca guests are loving it, and buying nearly four times more products each time they stop in.
And that’s just the beginning. As the store team gets ready to greet the crowd at tomorrow’s grand opening, District Team Leader Shannon Burho gave a few lucky guests a VIP preview. Take a look:

Growing our small-format footprint is just one way we’re blending the best of our stores, digital channels and supply chain capabilities to create a seamless shopping experience. We’ll also continue reimagining our existing stores—in fact, we just announced we’re accelerating plans to remodel more than 1,000 stores by the end of 2020, taking the guest experience to new heights with our next generation of store design.
Along with same-day delivery, we’re also investing in projects and partnerships like the Target Restock next-day delivery service, Google Express hands-free shopping technology, Pinterest Visual Search, and enhanced tech tools for our team members to use on the sales floor.
