When we shared the news of Target’s latest partnership with Chip and Joanna Gaines, of Magnolia and HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” fame, let’s just say… it was kind of a big deal. Guests are thrilled about Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, and for “Fixer Upper” fans who will be sad to see the design duo go after next season (we know we will!), you can rest easy knowing that Target’s got your Chip and Jo fix for years to come. But first, some more exciting news before the brand’s much-anticipated arrival on Nov. 5: The first collection’s look book is now live!
With more than 300 pieces, including everything from modern farmhouse-inspired dinnerware, to Jo-approved décor, an adorable dollhouse and more, we’re sharing the entire first collection so you have plenty of time to peruse the photos, pick out your favorite pieces and get ready for the launch date.
And what would a good look book reveal be without a Q&A sesh with the collection’s designer? We had to get the scoop on the design process, the inspiration behind your soon-to-be favorite pieces and more… and lucky for us, Joanna was happy to oblige. Read on:
Tell us about Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia! What was the inspiration behind the design of the first collection?
For me and Chip, there is nothing more important than home and family. That’s what fuels our passion for helping families create spaces they want to gather in, so naturally, the inspiration for Hearth & Hand with Magnolia came from those sweet moments in life that bring people together—everything from holiday traditions and family gatherings to quiet nights around the fire. It’s all about surrounding yourself with people you love.
How was the design process working with Target?
It has been so fun to work together on everything from the design process to how the collection will be brought to life in stores and online. This is the first time I’ve ever worked with a retailer to design a collection, so it was important that every detail reflects the true spirit of Magnolia. It was a true collaboration in every sense of the word.
How did you come up with the different designs in the collection?
We wanted to design the collection for everyday life—modern, classic, industrial and vintage elements for those who value traditions, but also want to add a modern touch through classic patterns and organic finishes. We knew many items would be available all year long, but also made sure each product refresh would add a few unique design elements to add a more seasonal touch.
Once the collection is released, how do you hope guests use Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia in their homes?
The products were designed for everyday life and inspired by the moments in life that bring people together, so our hope is that these products help families do just that. The idea that we can help make someone’s home feel even more lovely and inviting for the holidays and beyond is something really special.
