Complete with scallop edge boxespolka dotted bagsplaid paperpatterned tape and more, the Sugar Paper for Target holiday collection has a variety of elevated wrapping essentials (all for under $15!) to effortlessly package gifts of all shapes and sizes.

Chelsea Shukov and Jamie Grobecker, Sugar Paper co-founders and gift wrapping experts—they once wrapped a 50-pound piece of coral!—gave us their pro tips on how to plan ahead, which items to use and what to do when you run out of wrap. Read on:

Anticipating how much gift wrap, boxes and bags you’ll need ahead of the holidays can be tough! What’s your strategy for knowing how much to buy?
CS: It’s always a guessing game, and it really depends on what you’re planning to give, but we always buy more than we need. The beauty of what we designed for Target this year is that very little of the print and pattern is actually holiday specific. We have found that many guests buy too many Sugar Paper items on purpose with the understanding that our designs can be used year-round. This year, the blush and blue colors in particular can be used for multiple occasions.

We’ve all experienced that moment when you end up just a few inches short on gift wrap. Know of any tricks for what to do when this happens?
JG: Yep! We’ve all been there. The best trick we know is to make sure that the empty strip runs down the center of the box and make sure you have a spool of wide ribbon. Then, grab some double-stick tape and stick it on the length of ribbon. If you adhere it to the box accordingly, you can get away with disguising the missing strip of wrap. Finish the package with a big, festive bow, and nobody will ever know.

Gift box, gift bag, gift wrap—how do you know which to use, and when?
CS: We’re big fans of wrapped packages over the use of gift bags, but we know that wrapping oddly shaped items is sometimes not an option. We created small gift boxes this year for items like a pair of earrings or a necklace (they also perfectly fit gift cards!) and we created oversize hatboxes to use for items like candles and gift sets.

What are your favorite pieces from the new Sugar Paper holiday collection?
JG: We are thrilled with this year’s offering. We love the oversized and tiny hatboxes and plan to use them as office storage once the holidays are gone. We also worked hard with Target to get the ribbon just right. We added extra yards of ribbon to each spool so that the amount of ribbon is generous (there is nothing worse than running out of ribbon at the wrong moment!) and the bows tie beautifully, because the quality is top notch.

What’s your strategy for tackling the wrapping process?
CS: We like wrapping everything all at once. Most years, Jamie and I take a night to meet at the studio and wrap all of our gifts together. It’s much more fun than wrapping alone. We recommend picking a night and planning a wrapping party. It’s hard to find time to get together with your friends during such a busy time, but everyone has gifts to wrap. That way, the work gets done while you giggle with your girlfriends.

The Sugar Paper for Target holiday collection is available now in stores and on Target.com—all for under $15.
