But even better is the conversation that the bars create. It’s an easy way for me to show my own girls that not everyone is as fortunate as we are to have great food whenever we want, but at the same time we can do big and little things to help out. I love that.”

Adults, don’t worry. We haven’t forgotten you! “We also sell our grown-up bars, This Bar Saves Lives, at Target so moms like me can keep fueled on healthy, gourmet treats like the Dark Chocolate Cherry & Sea Salt bars,” says Kristin.

So what inspired this big idea?
A child dies every 12-seconds from totally preventable malnutrition. The good news is, it’s fixable. My good friend (and fellow co-founder of This Bar Saves Lives) Ryan Devlin saw this first-hand in Liberia and when he got back to the states we started to work on the idea for This Bar Saves Lives. We lined up the best non-profit partners and then got started on our recipes. I taste-tested ALL of them. Not a tough job ;). We knew that if we wanted to help millions of children, we had to make the best dang snack bars around, and ours are definitely that. Gluten free, non-GMO, fair trade, and ridiculously delicious.

Why is this cause so close to your heart?
I have two young girls, so children’s health and nutrition are always on my mind. The kids we’re helping abroad, in countries like Haiti, the Philippines, and South Sudan… they’re my kids’ contemporaries. They’re little boys and girls who deserve every chance in life, and that starts with having a full belly. With proper nutrition, a child can grow up strong, attend school, and then work to change the world around her.

Give us the scoop—how do you enjoy the bars in your everyday life?
I love giving the bars to my girls and using them as a conversation starter to talk about global issues in a way that they can understand. I think that’s really special. And for me, I ALWAYS have a This Bar on hand. I’ll usually have a Madagascar Vanilla Almond bar in the morning with my green tea (pro tip: get the bar a little warm, like on the dashboard of your car on a sunny day, and it’s like a gourmet rice crispy treat!), and then I’ll munch on a Dark Chocolate Cherry bar later in the day as a healthy pick-me-up. They’re so delicious it’s crazy.
