Hiring for the Holidays! Target’s Looking for More Than 70,000 Team Members to Make Shopping Season Magic

There’s never been a merrier time to join our team! For the fourth year in a row, Target’s looking to hire an additional 70,000 seasonal team members across our stores and 7,500 team members for our distribution and fulfillment facilities for the holiday season.

“The Target team is famous for serving up exceptional shopping experiences,” says Janna Potts, chief stores officer, Target. “We can’t wait to welcome new seasonal team members on board to help us make the holidays extra bright for our guests. And new this year, all of our 1,800 stores will host dedicated hiring events in October, meeting with thousands of prospective candidates in just 48 hours.”

As online orders ramp up for the must-have products for the season, distribution and fulfillment center team members will help to replenish the stores while fulfilling the mega-high volume of online orders we’re expecting during the busiest season of the year. To make sure we have plenty of hands on deck, we’re planning to add the 7,500 seasonal positions in those facilities—about 1,000 more than Target hired last holiday. 

“Our distribution teams will be major players in that game, helping us get all those products to guests in time to host holiday events, give gifts and celebrate all season long,” says Carson Landsgard, senior vice president, distribution, Target.

Our stores teams also play an important role in Target’s online shopping experience—today, about 30 percent of our Target.com sales are fulfilled by a store, either through Order Pickup or Ship from Store.

Just like we’ve done in past years, we’ll make sure our existing team members across the country get first dibs on any extra holiday hours they want. Then, we’ll bring in thousands of seasonal hires to help with the additional work it takes to make the season sparkle for the millions of guests visiting and shopping with us. New to working retail? Don’t worry—you’ll get plenty of training time with our teams before the season officially kicks off so you’re ready to get in the game.

It’s always an exciting ride! Last year during fourth quarter, our teams accomplished some big (make that seriously huge) jobs—serving more than 446 million guests at checkout, and fulfilling more than 1 million online Order Pickup and Ship from Store orders over the Black Friday weekend. Oh, and don’t forget helping millions of guests find the perfect gifts, home décor, menu items, and everything else they needed to make their holidays magic all throughout the season.
