Hearts across the nation are heavy as we mourn 49 people whose lives ended too soon in this past weekend’s tragedy in Orlando. At Target, we were devastated to learn that the loss included two of our own, Mercedez Flores and Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo.

“We were incredibly saddened to hear the news of the horrific event in Orlando and heartbroken to learn that the victims included two Target team members,” said Brian Cornell, chief executive officer, Target. “Yesterday morning, I was overwhelmed by the response of our teams across the country who observed a moment of silence in honor of all the victims. On behalf of the entire Target team, I offer my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those lost during Sunday’s tragedy.”

Beginning in the early hours of Sunday morning, Target teams across Orlando donated food and water to first responders as well as those waiting in line to give blood to help survivors. We also provided a space at a nearby store to help law enforcement establish a command center.

“I want to personally thank the local Target team in Orlando for pulling together during an incredibly difficult and emotional time to do everything they can to help the community. In the midst of this unprecedented tragedy, we also know that financial support is critical," said Brian. “So today, in honor of our two team members and the other lives lost, we’re committing $250,000 to the OneOrlando Fund.”

The fund, established by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, will go to nonprofit organizations serving victims, their families and the community.

Orlando, Target stands with you. Mercedez and Omar, we will not forget you.
