Hot dog season is officially here—the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council says that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans will consume around 7 billion hot dogs! Rather than stick to old standbys like ketchup and mustard, we’re spicing things up a bit—just in time for summer family festivities!
We asked the Target Test Kitchen to reimagine the classic dog to create a bunch of themed recipes you can try on your grill at home. From blue cheese crumbles to fresh pineapple to baked beans, they’ve cooked up some genius condiment combos that’ll satisfy every hot dog aficionado in the family:
Chopped avocados, diced tomatoes, diced onions, jalapeno slices, cilantro leaves, cotija or feta cheese crumbles and a squeeze of lime.
Coleslaw, a pickle spear, baked beans and a drizzle of barbecue sauce.
Pepper and Onion Dog
Sliced bell peppers and onions, sautéed on low until very soft.
Buffalo Blue Dog
Chopped celery, blue cheese crumbles and buffalo sauce mayo (mix mayo and buffalo sauce together to taste).
Sliced cooked bacon, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and mayo.
Fresh chopped pineapple, chopped snap peas, minced red onion and teriyaki mayo (equal parts teriyaki sauce and mayo).
All American Dog
Diced onions, pickle relish and—of course—ketchup and mustard.
