The holiday shopping season kicked off yesterday as Target’s big doorbuster events got underway across the country, after building momentum throughout the day on Target.com. CEO Brian Cornell celebrated with our team members and guests at the Target store in Jersey City, N.J. Take a peek at what he’s been up to:

After so many months of preparation—planning the incredible deals, stocking up on the hottest gift items of the season, and getting our stores and website ready for guests—the big event is finally here. Nothing beats watching Target.com results roll in and then going out to meet the team members and guests who are excited to get the holiday shopping season underway.

It was incredible to see the Jersey City team in action. There was a lot of excitement in the air and everyone was ready to give guests the best possible Black Friday experience.

So many of our guests tell us they’ve made shopping on Thanksgiving part of their family tradition. After dinner is over, they hurry over to line up or log on for first dibs at all the great deals. I ran into a few guests right as I arrived.

It’s go time. I love the moment when our guests stream through the doors. The family in the photo above waited in line for three hours to get their hands on a new TV.

Black Friday is an incredible team effort. Our focus on execution paid off with a record-breaking day on Target.com. Our site was stable in spite of the high traffic, and we’re on track to have a very strong online weekend heading into Cyber Monday.

This is the kind of welcome I want all of our guests to experience when they shop with us this holiday season.

The $10 giant teddy bear was a runaway hit. This guest got a bear and needed two carts to hold everything else.
