As Target Home Style Expert, Emily Henderson, prepares for the arrival of her second child, she’s making sure to celebrate the occasion in style.
The glowing star fêted Baby #2—a girl!—this week at a Pinterest-worthy Baby Sprinkle. The party, which she calls a riff on the traditional Baby Shower, is part of a growing trend in expectant moms celebrating “the upcoming birth of a second (or third, or fourth!) child.”
So how can you pull off a party that looks like this? We caught up with the stylist extraordinaire to learn all her Baby Sprinkle do’s and don’ts. Plus, check out images from the soiree, below!
Pick a Theme or Color Palette. When planning parties, I like to take the same approach I take when designing a room—start by picking a theme or color palette to help set the tone for the rest of the party. Use the theme and palette to inform almost all of the party planning decisions, so everything looks cohesive. In this case, we played off of the idea of “Sprinkle,” and incorporated that water theme in the watercolor quotes throughout the space and even the invitations, and created a fun umbrella art installation.
Host Simple DIY Activities. I like to have fun and easy, yet laid-back activities for guests to enjoy. The activity does not have to be baby-focused, either! We had DIY terrariums at my Sprinkle, which were super fun for all my guests to put together. Plus, at the end of the party, everyone had something beautiful and functional to take home with them.
Communicate with Your Kids.Make sure you include your other children in the Sprinkle and over-communicate what you’re celebrating. I wanted my son Charlie to know he was a part of the celebration by including him in all the activities.
Don’t Forget the Drinks. Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a yummy, festive-looking drink. Have a “mocktail” available to hold onto in pictures and share with your other non-drinking guests.
Serve Up Crowd-Pleasing Bites. I like to serve food that works well in a grab-and-go-style scenario so guests can help themselves as they please and you don’t have to worry about making sure everyone is well-fed. A mac and cheese bar is a good example—it’s a crowd-pleaser and so easy to pull together.
