The back-to-school season is in full swing, and fall trend reports are in. Among the “it" looks we’re eyeing? Customized, colorful outfits created by piling on the layers.
“Layering allows kids to show their fashion smarts and personality,” says Zanna Roberts Rassi, Senior Fashion Editor of Marie Claire and mother of two. "Multiple layers allow you to play with cut, color, shapes and patterns to create a look entirely your own. Plus, layered looks can take kids from school to the playground, with the flexibility to warm up or cool down."
The best part? Anyone can get in on the layering trend, regardless of what type of fall temperatures are coming your way.
If you need to bundle up a bit more, “chunky turtleneck sweaters with sweatshirts over the top and heavy plaid jackets are a great way to keep cozy as we head into fall,” says Zanna. For milder climates, “boys and girls alike also look great rocking bomber jackets with denim joggers and tees, creating a cool, casual vibe."
And for those with nothing but sunshine all year round? “I’d recommend layering two tees—a long-sleeve underneath a short, topped with a denim jacket,” Zanna advises. With each mix-and-match guide, Zanna notes that it’s important to include items that speak to you (or your child), with fun textures, colors or prints, to create a personalized look that’s truly one of a kind.
There are no limits to the fall layering potential, thanks to Target’s incredible assortment of mix-and-match options. Kids everywhere can take full advantage of this season’s new denim, plaid-printed garb and tons of other back-to-school essentials.
